Godwit Days

4/19/2017 - 4/25/2017

eBIRD ranks the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary as the #1 spot for birding in No. California and #24 in all of the U.S. We offer numerous trips at this birders paradise throughout the festival. Be sure you sign-up for one!

This exciting festival includes a wide array of birding activities featuring field trips and workshops. Listen to fascinating lectures by acclaimed authors and naturalists, go on birding trips and view species in their natural habitats, enjoy kayaking trips and boat excursions. Held at the peak of spring migration, shorebirds abound and special opportunities are planned to see many other species, including Marbled Murrelet, Spotted Owl, and Snowy Plover.

The area offers a wide array of habitats and species for your observation and enjoyment. Our selection of over 100 small group field trips, lectures, workshops, boating excursions, and community activities are led by experienced local guides. Special pre- and post-festival birding trips that can extend your enjoyment to a full week are available.
Live birds of prey on display from the Humboldt Wildlife Care Center, Saturday 10am-3pm & Sunday 10am-2pm at the Arcata Community Center.
The 2017 program features many events and field trips. It will be as diverse as ever, incorporating many aspects of the animals and habitats that make up our beautiful North Coast. The line-up consists of 90 field trips, workshops, lectures, boat trips, a banquet, silent auction, and events like the “Big Day,” where participants travel by bus around Humboldt County to spot around 135 bird species.
Free events for everyone include an opening reception/Friday night lecture, presentation of the third annual Humboldt County Bird of the Year award, Bird Fair vendor booths, an art show, live birds of prey from the Humboldt Wildlife Care Center, family nature crafts sponsored by Friends of the Arcata Marsh (FOAM), and some field trips (price noted as $0.00 on event list, but require sign-up to reserve a spot).
