Briceland Vineyards is a small winery focusing on wines produced from locally grown grapes. 

Humboldt County’s cool climate is well suited for Briceland’s famous Brut Sparkling Wine (methode champenoise), Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.    The winery also makes Arneis and Syrah.

Since its founding by Winemaker Joe Collins and Maggie Carey in 1985, Briceland Vineyards has consistently won awards at major competitions.  More than half of the dozens of wines Briceland has entered in prestigious competitions such as the California State Fair, the Orange County Fair, and the SF International Wine Competition have won awards.  Several of the awards at the State Fair have been for the Best Wine of Region.

Winemaker Joe Collins has over 35 years of winemaking and grape growing experience and is a practiced winemaker.  He has lectured at UC Davis Extension classes on white and sparkling wine making and on Pinot Noir production at the Anderson Valley Pinot Noir Festival.  In both 1990 and 1991, Joe Collins was the Individual Grand Champion at the California Wine Tasting Championships.
 

Knowledge and understanding of each step in the process are essential ingredients in the consistent production of fine wines.  So are top quality grapes.  Because of his commitment to utilizing Humboldt County grapes, Joe Collins pioneered grape growing in Southern Humboldt by planting an experimental vineyard in Briceland in the ‘70s.  He still provides technical assistance to local grape-growers, from site planning and varietal choice, to pruning styles and frost protection.  All of the grapes used in Briceland wines are grown to meet the high standards of the winemaker.  

Briceland Vineyards wines are available at markets and restaurants throughout Humboldt County.  Wine can be purchased at the winery by appointment and tasting and bottles are available at Persimmons Tasting Room  in Redway.  

The winery hosts open houses twice a year on Memorial Day Weekend and Thanksgiving Weekend.  Shipping is available by FedEx.  Wine Club Members enjoy reduced prices at the winery and on shipped wines.
