Only three drive-thru trees remain in California, all on the Redwood Coast.
All three trees are privately owned and a fee is charged to drive through. The closest one to Humboldt Redwoods State Park is the Shrine Drive-Thru Tree in Myers Flat, four miles south of the park visitor's center.
The Trees and Their Locations Heading North:
Chandelier Tree: This tree resembles an ornate chandelier. Open from 8 a.m. to dusk year round and offers a gift shop, picnic area, and nature walks in the forest. Take the Leggett exit where Hwy 101 junctions with Hwy 1, after exiting the freeway turn south immediately onto frontage rd and watch for signs to park. Shrine Drive-Thru Tree, and Drive-Over Tree: Humboldt Redwoods State Park 13078 Avenue of the Giants, Myers Flat, CA 95554. Drive your car through a redwood tree or over a fallen redwood log. The kids will like our two 2-story tree houses and the children's walk-through stump. Visit the redwood gift shop 707-943-1975. Tree is open from dawn til dusk. Gift shop hours - summertime only - 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.

The tree with a highway running through it was located in Yosemite National Park. It was a Giant Sequoia and it fell in 1969.
